This is really important if you are sending out a lot of resumes to different companies in different industries (and these days, who isn't?). Each industry has a desired format for a resume. Some want to see Education first. Some want to see your Work History in (reverse?) chronological order first. Some want a statement of the kind of job you are seeking. Some really only want to see a single page. Do a little research first or ask friends or family whether the format of the resume is important. When my daughter was first looking for a job in the film industry I helped her write a resume which had, at the top, a 'position desired' section which is expected in management consulting. You know "I am seeking an entry level position with increasing responsibility which will enable me to gain the skills to eventually become a Production Assistant" kind of stuff. Fortunately, her friends in the industry saw it and told her that NO ONE puts that on a resume. So be careful who you ask and make sure they really know.
